v8 Finally, brothers,
In this final devotion I want to highlight what Paul is saying – importantly it is to keep putting into practice what he has been teaching them; being JOYFUL, GENTLE, PRAYERFUL and THANKFUL. He closes out this paragraph by saying that the God of peace shall be with them. Not only does God give us peace, he is the God of peace.
But we need to put these things into practice in our lives. Every day we are faced with a choice. If you need help with how to make these right choices every day please drop me a message and I can pray and advise.
One last crucial piece of advice is to redirect our thought life so that we focus on what will feed our souls, feed our faith and not our fears. We need to be careful about our thought life.
whatever is TRUE, as opposed to the lies and the fake news
whatever is NOBLE, (or honourable) as opposed to what is worst in society
whatever is RIGHT, as opposed to all that is unfair in society
whatever is PURE, as opposed to all the muck in socity
whatever is ADMIRABLE, (or lovely) as opposed to all that is ugly in society
if anything is EXCELLENT or PRAISEWORTHY–think about such things, as opposed to all that lacks virtue and the trash that can fill our TVs, our conversations and our minds. All of these negative things rob us of peace. It’s easy to ruminate, dwell on, chew over all the negativity, whether that is about ourselves, others, or the times were living in.
Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me–put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
James says; But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:22
And finally, Paul says to his apprentice Timothy; now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all. 2 Thessalonians 3:16
