Day 4 – Thankfulness

v6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

On day one I mentioned about our horrendous year, 2001. It was the year where I said; “This is going to be a difficult year.” It was the year where God said so clearly; “Rejoice always. Pray continually. In everything GIVE THANKS for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.” As a young couple aged 34, learning daily to put this into practice, despite the depth of pain in our hearts brought transformation to our hearts and to our walk with God.

Learning to look intentionally for things to be thankful for can bring tremendous freedom in our spirits, and peace in our minds. Even amidst the difficult times in which we live, learning to look for things to be thankful for will bring inner transformation. I call it, developing an attitude of gratitude, and I am probably quoting someone else when I say it. We need to do this regularly, daily. Our prayers should always have a good amount of thanksgiving.

I am not one for bringing my shopping list to God. I don’t feel we should be treating God like a vending machine, and anyway, it’s not just and endless list of woes and worries (though God in His grace knows us and listens to our hearts). He knows what we need before we ask. We are instructed to cast our care on God, but let’s think about what he has done for us.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15
